I Love Mommy Today (Not Daddy)

So this is Ryan writing. We had an funny Kaitlyn moment yesterday. We were driving to Prairie du Chien and both Christi and I were really tired. The girls kept yelling and being very loud. We kept telling them to stop but they wouldn't. So, Daddy slammed on the brakes and pulled over to the side of the road. Instead of saying, "Don't make me pull this car over", I just did it anyway. Of course as we were coming to a quick stop Kaitlyn said, Wooooow!. Anyway, when we stopped I turned around and gave them the Daddy Dalton look [anyone who knows me knows the Ryan Dalton mad look; Kaitlyn has allready perfected it] and stearnly told them enough was enough, it was time to be quiet, and they weren't to yell or scream anymore. Of course, Christi is trying desperatley not to laugh in the front seat, Kaitlyn gives me a dirty look, and Emily just gives me a space cadet look like she has no clue what is going on. But, they quiet down and we get going again. After about thirty seconds of driving, out of the blue Kaitlyn says, with her perfected Ryan Dalton mad look on her face, "I Love Mommy Today." Well, Christi and I couldn't help but laugh, and I said to her, "Kaitlyn, what about Daddy? Do you love Daddy too?" Her response was a simple, emphatic, and concise, "I love Mommy today!" So I laughed again and was proud of myself. You know your doing your parenting job well when your kids don't love you every once in a while. We were just glad she said it with some tact the way she did instead of outright saying, "I hate you Daddy" Luckily she hasn't learned the "hate" word yet. Don't worry though folks. Two hours later she loved her Daddy again. - Ryan

update

Poor Em has had it rough this month. This last weekend Emily feel face first onto the concrete for the 3rd time! The first time we were out with some friends and a little boy knocked her stroller over. She got two or three scrapes around her eye. Then that was almost completely gone and she dove out of her stroller head first and got a nasty scrape on her forehead. That was finally all cleared up and now she fell off the curb at Piggly Wiggly and scraped her nose and just below her eye. On top of that this month she has been sick a lot. She got a temp and was uncontrollably crying, so I took her to the Doctor. Ear infection, but just barely so we tried to fight it without antibiotics. That was a rough week. I thought she was finally getting better when it got WAY worse. Took her in again and she had a really red throat. She just finished her antibiotic and is ALMOST back to normal. Poor girl. I know I can’t wait tell she’s completely healthy. You know the saying if momma ain’t happy ain’t no one happy? Well we decided at our house it’s if Emmy ain’t happy, ain’t no one happy! This is Ryan cuddling with Em on one of those days.

So a few weekends ago we had stake conference (where a group of our local congregations meet together). This doesn’t normally make for a whole weekend trip, but our stake building is in Madison which is 1 ½-2 hours away. Ryan had a meeting late Saturday afternoon, and we all were supposed to be there Sunday morning. So we spent Saturday night at the Price’s. They come to our branch on assignment. They live very close to the church (yay!) So we got there and while Ryan went to his meeting, the girls and I went shopping! I love shopping! So do the girls, in fact Kaitlyn loves it to much already. I had quite a few tantrums when I wouldn’t let her keep something she picked up. That was a rough shopping trip and I was glad to have Ryan back when we got back. Sunday morning we went to the meeting. It was POORING rain and we didn’t have umbrellas. We were SOAKED!!! Luckily we dried off about half way through. When we got there Ryan saw our friends the Midtoven’s, so we got to sit with them. They are the ones that were in Nauvoo the same time as us. I think Kaitlyn and Jaden have a little thing for each other. It’s very cute. After the conference we had planned to have picnic at the zoo and go see the animals (it’s a FREE zoo! I love it!) Luckily it stopped raining and we were able to go. Here are the kids getting ready to go in (minus Jake who was in the other stroller)

Mya, Emily, Kaitlyn, Jaden

There was a cute turtle the kids got a picture on. We kept adding children, Jake wasn’t too happy about the turtle!

The “monkey’s” (Kaitlyn called them all monkey’s) were the first that we looked at.

Mya and Kaitlyn checking them out

Ryan (being silly of coarse) and Emily checking them out

While we were there some one came into feed some of the monkeys! It was so cool. This was the best picture I could get.

We had a great time checking out all the animals and hanging out with our friends. It was a great weekend. It took a couple of weeks to get back on the swing of things though!

I just discovered that Em’s hair is long enough to put into pigtails! Well, they go in, but it definitely doesn’t last all day. She looks so much older and even more like a Wilson (my maiden name) baby this way! She wasn’t in the mood for pictures when I took these though, lol. Here’s her first time in pig tails! And some of Miss Kaitlyn too.

Ryan and I decided to have a nice family date before our family grows again. Friday night we went out to dinner, Chinese (yum!) and then we walked to the movie theatre. All four of us only cost $10! At least we will until November when Kaitlyn turns 3. Our town has one theatre and it is really cute it used to be a play house and I’m not sure but they might still hold plays there occasionally. It’s so pretty inside! They only play one movie a week and this week’s movie was Kung Fu Panda. This was Kaitlyn’s (and Emily’s) first time to go to a theatre to watch a movie. Ryan and I have been very nervous to try this. Kaitlyn has a very short attention span. Well the girls actually did VERY well. We got seats to the side that had an aisle in front, so Em had plenty of walking room and we brought suckers as an incentive to stay quiet. They did really well and Kaitlyn didn’t need the suckers until the end of the movie. Emily fell asleep (with some help from Mom) at the end of the movie. Kaitlyn didn’t and was too tired on the way home. We had our double stroller but she still cried the whole way home! It was just too late for her. All in all it was a good evening. I just wish they had an earlier showing then 7pm.

Kaitlyn is talking SO much now it’s crazy. She just asked me
Momma, I go Jaden Mya’s house in my red van? She is so cute and I love that she has friends now. There was a long while were she didn’t really have anyone to play with. It makes me so happy to know she has some friends here. Plus it’s nice for me cause I get a friend too!

Memorial Weekend

We had a GREAT memorial weekend, I hope you did too! We took a family trip down to Nauvoo Illinois. Nauvoo is a city that has great historical meaning to me and my church. This was the last weekend that Andy had before he started work, so we wanted to go to the temple. We have 3 choices; Nauvoo, Chicago, and Minneapolis, all of which are 4 hours away. Chicago is our official temple, but we haven’t been there yet. I can’t wait until we go. I’ve never been to Chicago, and it’s always fun to go threw a temple for the first time. Anyway we decided Nauvoo was more in our budget, so we went there. We left Friday evening after I got off work. –Ryan came and picked up the girls and finished packing, so when I got home we left. It was REALLY nice. We got to our hotel late Friday night so we just checked in and got some sleep. Saturday morning Ryan and I took the girls to the park to play. We wanted them worn out so they’d take a good nap for Andy. While we were there we decided to walk to the temple grounds and show the girls the beautiful temple. Ryan and I were just having a conversation when he said (sorry about this, just spelling it doesn’t work when your typing) Hell no. Kaitlyn immediately says Hell no daddy, hell Ryan. Oh man! She sure is repeating EVERYTHING right now. I teased Ryan that it was a GREAT place to teach Kaitlyn that word-on the temple grounds. And yesterday I was really stressed out. I was late getting somewhere and had lost my keys so I said oh crap. Kaitlyn says oh crap, mommy Kaitlyn say oh crap. It was all I could do not to laugh. I guess she taught me my lesson. Ryan’s not the only one who has to watch their mouth. Oh crap, I mean dang it. Lol. Anyway Ryan and I went to the temple while the girls took naps for Andy. It was SO nice to be in the temple again and the Nauvoo temple is exceptionally beautiful. When we got back to the hotel this is what we found:

Kaitlyn asleep on the floor with her head on the mattress we brought for the girls. It was so cute. She was so tired but didn’t want to take a nap until finally she just collapsed. So cute. Andy said Em took a short nap and then spent the rest of the time trying to wake up Kaitlyn. Sounds like a typical nap time to me! After that we went to see some of the sights. First we went on a carriage ride around Nauvoo. Kaitlyn loved it because it was pulled by Princess Bell horses. Lol, she’s only seen part of that movie and she remembered that Bell has a horse. Too cute. I was just glad she liked it. After wards I wanted a picture of everyone by the horses. Poor Kaitlyn was scared to go near them, that’s why she’s making a funny face.

After that we went to the visitor center and watched the Missionaries do a play. It was great with lots of singing and dancing, my favorite kind! Well Ryan wasn’t to excited about it so as soon as Em started squirming he took her out. Lol, he always uses the girls as an excuse to leave! Well Kaitlyn saw that Daddy left so she spent the rest of the show going in and out to visit Mommy and Daddy. Oh well. She did like it, just ONLY when they were singing AND dancing. If they were talking or just singing she was out of there. I guess I can’t blame her she is only 2. After that we got some dinner and then went swimming! Don’t worry no pictures of that, you don’t want to see a 7 mo pregnant me in a swim suit! It was fun. The girls had a GREAT time, and it was cool because we saw some friends who were there too! Coreina lives in Lancaster too. She goes to the other branch though, so we don’t see her as much. She has 3 children; Jake who’s just younger than Em, Mya who’s just older than Kaitlyn, and Jaden who’s 5. Kaitlyn was so excited to see Mya and Jaden. She just loves them! It was fun to hang out with them while we swam. Ryan and Coreina’s husband even like each other, but they would never admit they’re friends. Boys are so funny! Sunday we went to the local ward. It was HUGE because of all the visitors, the gym was even full. It looked like a stake conference. It was a really nice meeting and I felt the spirit strongly there. After church we got our camp set up. We decided to camp Sunday night to Monday. We only have one tent, which is fine, except there was an extra boy with us! We were going to have the family sleep in the van (take the seats out and lay down a mattress we brought) but all the stuff from the van wouldn’t have fit in the tent plus Andy. So the 4 of us squished into a 2 man tent and Andy got the van. It made for some tight sleeping arrangements, but that’s half the fun of camping. Once every thing was set up we headed out to Carthage. This is a where our first prophet was killed by a mob. The missionaries there have a nice tour they do. You get to watch a beautiful movie with journal entries from people who knew Joseph Smith. This was Andy’s first time to see any of Nauvoo or Carthage. Emily and Kaitlyn didn’t do so well during the movie and the next step was tour. We started out with everyone, but it was too much for the girls. We really wanted Andy and the other people on the tour to feel the spirit so Ryan and I took the girls out while Andy finished the tour. This is the girls playing by the statue of Joseph and Hyrum Smith.

I really wanted one of them together, but it just was impossible! These were the best shots of my attempt at a sister picture.

They played there for a little while and then decided to play with Kaitlyn’s ball. Kaitlyn thought it was so cool that Daddy could kick the ball REALLY high. She and daddy had fun playing ball and Emily just played in the grass.

Kaitlyn throwing the ball to daddy

And Kaitlyn in the grass

When the tour was finished we decided to go to a Frisbee golf coarse. There was a really cute playground next to it that the girls and I played on. It had a bunch of different things made of wood. There was a mini-train, a small airplane, a tractor and some other things. They were REALLY cute. Andy got a picture of the girls in the plane, so when I get a copy I’ll post it. After a while Kaitlyn decided that she wanted to play with Daddy, so we found Ryan and Andy and Kaitlyn got to play disk golf too. She was SO cute! She couldn’t throw very far but she didn’t care. She just had fun playing with Daddy. At the end of the coarse Ryan and Andy were just practicing throwing and Em decided she wanted to throw to. So cute! She pretty much just dropped it, but she dropped it with feeling. Ryan was so proud of his girls wanting to play with him. When we got back to camp we got to meet our neighbors. They were really nice and Ryan and Andy got to play ultimate Frisbee with them while I got the girls to bed. They did NOT want to sleep. Lol. It was about 10 before they finally were out. Crazy. We got to make smores and sit by the fire and chat with our neighbors. It was really nice. The dad had just recently retuned from Iraq so we got to hear some great stories. I thought that was especially nice because of the holiday. On Monday we went to see some more of the sights. There was a new memorial to the pioneers who died on the trek that I hadn’t seen before. Ryan and I found some of our ancestors on there. It was really cool. The memorial is right before you get to the Mississippi were the pioneers crossed. The girls loved looking at the water. Here’s our family were the pioneers crossed the FROZEN Mississippi (I can’t imagine how cold it must have been!)

Em thought the rocks were delicious! She even wanted to share with me, she’s so sweet.

Kaitlyn and then my handsome Ryan

Ryan and Andy were skipping rocks and Kaitlyn tried too.

We went to lunch and ran in to Coreina and her family again and then we headed home. It was a great weekend, but very exhausting. I needed a vacation to recover from my vacation. I think I’m finally starting to get back on top of things.

My cute girls

So sometime in May I took some cute pictures of the girls. It was a Sunday morning so they are all dressed up for church. They are so cute! (I'm only a little biased)

That day ended up being... interesting. After church Ryan took Kaitlyn to the ER while I stayed home with Em. Kaitlyn has been having troubles with her BM's. In other words she was pretty constipated. Poor girl. We had started potty training her and she got a diaper rash, so between the two she didn't want to go. So of coarse just before the doctors see her she fills her diaper. Go figure. I ended up taking her to our pediatrician a few days later. We got some new cream to put on her and the rash was gone almost instantly. It was great. So I tell you this because Kaitlyn came home so proud of herself. She got to be like Mommy at the doctor. (She see the ob measure my belly and listen to the heartbeat) So she was the perfect 2 yr old patient because she was happy to jump up on the table and show the doctor her tummy. Too cute. Anyway, she was also very proud of her Princess bracelet. One of the nurses put a sticker on her ID bracelet. This is her very proudly showing her new bracelet.

Em got to eat her first ice cream cone all by herself. She was VERY excited about it. There's just something about those cute chubby cheeks covered in food that makes us just laugh. So here's some ice cream covered Emmy pictures.

And a much cleaner Kaitlyn enjoying her ice cream cone

And next time I'll have some cute pictures from our adventure to Nauvoo!

He has a name!

Our baby boy has a name! (no he is not here yet, 3 mo left) Ryan and I have had a hard time agreeing on a name for him. I have wanted to name him Logan Daniel and Ryan was not happy about the Logan part. He knew a Mr. Logan and has bad memories from him. But NOTHING else was working. We tried to think of lots of different names, but nothing fit. I was getting bummed, thinking he was going to be a month old before we got him named. (I really like to have the name pretty soon after we find out what it is, I hate saying the baby or it) Well one day I was having a rough day and I just said Ryan I need a hug and while he gave me some hugs (he's such a good husband) he says well hows Logan doing? I couldn't believe it. He is so sweet. That definatly made my day better! -Well once I finally believed he was serious! So our baby boy has a name, Logan Daniel Dalton. Logan after the Logan temple, which is my favorite- also to convince Ryan it was a good name, after Logan the wolferine. Andy says we HAVE to do his hair like the wolverine, it'd be way cool. So I'll have to do at least one picture. lol, we'll see how much hair he has. And Daniel is my daddy's name. He is an amazing man and I hope that Logan will be like him. So that's the story. Yeah for little Logan. We are so excited and can't wait to meet him.

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day to all you mom's out there. I have learned lots from my amazing Mom friends. I couldn't even list them all. You are wonderful and amazing, keep up the good work! I hope everyone has had a great weekend. Ryan and the girls made it a special one for me. On Saturday morning I got to go garage-saleing all by myself! I loved it. It was so nice to get out with out the girls. Saturday evening we went out as a family for dinner and tried a new restaurant. Then this morning Ryan surprised me with breakfast in bed! I LOVED it! Kaitlyn helped by bringing in the cards that they got me. Thanks guys for the wonderful weekend. I want to especially thank my mom and mother in law this special day. They are wonderful and I love them both so much. I also have 3 amazing grandmothers that I love very much, plus Ryan's 2 amazing grandmothers.

My Mom

Mom and my sisters Jessica and Tiara-who must have been moving

My mother is amazing. I love her so much. She is always there for me and I love to talk to her. I call her almost everyday just to talk and see what's going on. I love the advice she gives me. My mom's main goal was to have a solid family. She wanted us to have a safe, secure, loving place to come home to, and she wanted us to love to spend time together. I think she has done an amazing job at that and continues to do so. She is the mother of 7 children and Grandmother of soon to be 4 grandchildren.

My Mother in Law

Mom with Kaitlyn just after she was born

I have been so blessed to have the best in-laws. If you got to hand pick the family your spouse came from, I'd definitely pick the Daltons. I love Mom, she is wonderful. She has always made me feel welcome and loved since the very beginning. Just after Ryan and I got engaged I flew back to Texas, but my family had already left for Utah. I was alone and feeling really lonely. I ended up going over to Mom D's house. Ryan wasn't even there, he was still in Iowa. As soon as I walked in Mom gave me a huge hug and said what's wrong? She hugged me as I baled and told her how lonely I was and how all the phones were broke at my house and then she gave me a phone so I could call my mom. I had JUST BARELY gotten engaged to her son and she was already helping take care of me. Mom your great and I love you. Mom is the mother of 4 and the grandmother of soon to be 6.

Mindy, Ryan's sister

Mindy and her husband Chris

Again, I couldn't have asked for better in-laws. Mindy is an amazing mother. She has 3 boys. Boys, they take LOTS of energy and Mindy is so great with them. I know she REALLY wants a girl, but I think she is the perfect boy mom. Austin, Cameron, and Colin are so lucky to have you. I wish we lived closer together. I love just to spend time with her and hang out. And my girls love playing with their cousins. Kaitlyn saw a picture of Austin on your blog (the one with the allergic reaction) -I hadn't said anything to her- and she says Austin mommy, look Austin. It was so cute. She loves you and your handsome boys! I love you Mindy.

My sister Julia

Julia with Kaitlyn and I on a camping trip to Nauvoo

This is Julia's FIRST mothers day as a mom! Yay Julia! I'm so excited that you are a mom now. Julia and I were pregnant together for a little while. She is way ahead of me and already had her baby. A cute little boy named Cooper and as Kaitlyn says Pooper. I have been amazed at how much Julia has grown up since becoming a mom. Babe your amazing and do such a great job. I wish I was closer and we got to hang out more. I love you babe!

Katrina, Ryan's sister

Katrina being cute and funny

Katrina hasn't become a mother yet, but she is an awesome sister in law and I'm sure a great wife. I also really enjoy having Katrina as a sister. Your wonderful babe and I love you!

A great rainy day activity and other things

A few weeks ago we had some older kids at our house to play for the afternoon. We have TONS of toys, to many in fact. But we don’t have much for older kids. Plus it was rainy all day so we couldn’t run around outside. I was trying to think of some fun things for the kids to do when I remembered a fun idea I read in a Parenting magazine. We got out a cardboard box and unfolded it. I had 4 kids, one square for each kid. Rule one, you must stay in your square. Rule two, you have to share the sidewalk chalk. That was it. The kids had a great time.

The oldest a girl, 10 found out you could erase it and recolor your square. Just use your sock or your pants or even your hands. Lol. They got a little dirty but had a great time. I had gotten Kaitlyn the sidewalk chalk for Easter and we hadn’t had a chance to use it yet. She had fun coloring with it and breaking them into smaller pieces (why? I don’t know, but she was having fun!) and Em thought it was so YUMMY! We had to keep taking hers away. It turned out to be a fun little activity. So next time your stuck inside on a rainy or cold day give it a try!

Kaitlyn NEVER EVER sleeps with us. Ryan is VERRY happy about this. I tried when she was littler to let her sleep with us occasionally, but she just can’t sleep if mommy’s there. Even on the few times she’s been sick at night, she can’t sleep when we (ok, I) put her in our bed. The other morning Kaitlyn came in REALLY early. Like 4 or 5. I was worried she’d be up for the day, but Ryan just plopped her in the middle and we ALL went back to sleep, including Kaitlyn. When we woke up I couldn’t believe it. Ryan got up before us to get ready for the day and snapped a few pictures of us sleeping. WARRNING: I am sleeping and do not look good! Please ignore me and look at my sweet cute baby.

A weekend or so ago Ryan and I went to look at some houses during the day (thank you Andy! Having a teenager in our house is AWESOME!) Kaitlyn and Emily stayed home with Andy so we could be quick. I had put Kaitlyn in her bed before we left. She usually goes to sleep really quickly. This time she was having a rough time going to sleep. Plus I heard some really weird noises, I thought our neighbor upstairs was just being really loud, moving furniture or something. I even checked our screen door which doesn’t always close all the way to see if it was making the banging noises. Well eventually the noise stopped and I didn’t think much of it. Ryan and I left. When we got back Andy was just dying with laughter! Kaitlyn had been having a hard time sleeping and then she started yelling for help. When Andy went to check on her she was between the board and the wall. It’s really hard to explain so here’s a picture:

The first is a picture of Kaitlyn’s bed. Ryan’s dad and grandpa made a really cool bed. It’s a bunk bed, but the bottom is a desk instead of a bed. They gave it to us recently, and Kaitlyn has her toddler bed under the bunk bed and we took down the desk for now. So the second picture is of the space between her bed and the wall that she had climbed down into. She had been there for a while and Andy had heard noises and thought she was just playing, apparently she had been stuck in there and was trying to jump out. We thought it’d be fun to put her back in to take a picture, but she freaked out! I know I don’t have to worry about her climbing in there again. I love that Kaitlyn is so adventuresome (sometimes) it just cracks me up when she gets stuck somewhere odd.

There was a huge city wide garage sale on Friday and Saturday. So of coarse I went! There were 100 registered g-sales and more that weren’t. I had so much fun, and got tons of great stuff, and if you ask Ryan all I did was spend our life savings. Lol, but he’ll be grateful when the baby gets here and we actually have clothes for him. I got a huge bag stuffed full of boys clothes, books, barbies, a UT Texas hat ($2, brand new!), baby dolls, a slide for the girls, a princess doll, a princess lamp and placemat, and princess clothes. Plus other stuff. The funniest is I got a Cinderella book for 25 cents and Kaitlyn was reading it, she’d open it “ohhh, Thank you mommy!” and then turn the page and say
“ohhh, Thank you mommy!” again, for almost every page. She carried it around and even slept with it last night. I love that she can be so happy with something that cost a quarter.
